  • Texas BBQ

I know that there was a thread about a BBQ tour at one point in the three iterations of this Board, but it's not in this one! I've searched and searched and it is not here.

So, here we go on another tour of the best BBQ joints in our great state of Texas.

I'll start it off with an east of Austin classic that is only open on Saturdays and has an 88 year old pitmaster named Tootsie. link

After becoming a famous name on the barbecue scene, people travel from around the world to try her barbecue at Snow's BBQ in Lexington.

The barbecue spot is only open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until they sell out. People are known to show up and wait in line during the early morning hours to experience the authentic Texas barbecue flavors the now 88-year-old is well-known for creating.

The tradition while standing in long lines is to chill out and start drinking a few cold beers, even if it's early while in line; it's a tradition best described as "When in Rome."

Snow's BBQ is located at 516 Main Street in Lexington, Texas.

    Obligatory Franklin’s post.

Really though there’s at least half a dozen BBQ joints in the Austin area that are probably top .1% of all BBQ joints.

it's the wood. Central Texas is the heart of BBQ no doubt.

For sure I feel everyone should have it once. Typically don’t have the time and patience myself, but the best brisket I’ve ever had.

I went to Franklin's when he just had a food truck off I-35 by Fiesta with short lines, lol.
Same with la Barbecue in Austin when they were just a food truck with short lines, but not gonna wait an hour plus these days.

I go to Smitty's in Lochkart with short to no lines. The other bbq places in Lockhart also have really good side dishes and are just a couple minutes from each other.

Godspeed BBQ is pretty good, I have only had it at a food truck at Turning Point Brewery in Hurst.

I am a fan of Feedstore in Southlake, they do turkey as well as anybody.

I like Heim, but I think their Magnolia location in FW is better than their river location.

I have Panther Island on my list, heard they are fantastic.

Lockhart has the highest ratio of elite BBQ to population anywhere. Several fantastic places. You really can’t go wrong.

For DFW (in no particular order):

-Dayne’s Craft BBQ - my family’s favorite. Probably my favorite too.
                      -Vaquero’s BBQ in Grapevine
                      -Panther City
                      -Cattleack
                      -Pecan Lodge

I forgot "Meat u Anywhere", Grapevine and Trophy Club. Ride the 3 Sisters in Trophy Club then load up on brisket and ride your way back to the car.

There are multiple ways to measure. One is value. Another is taste. Another is the two together. And so on.
