Did we ever think that we just watched the next Oscar winning film for Best Picture at this time?
No. I thought it was too whacky to win, but they had quite a night of awards. I personally thought "All Quiet on the Western Front" or "The Banchees of Inisheren" were better movies.
And I think Andrea Riseborough should have won Best Actress. But, what do I know?

The best anything doesn't usually win. In Andreas case, I thought it would, and I thought hers was the best performance, and the "whacky" movie wouldn't, cause I felt it was really the best I have seen for several years.

Prejudice is a great time-saver. You can form opinions without having to get the facts.

What I liked about Everything, Everywhere, etc. was that it was definitely out of the norm and took some chances. It was original and not just another sequel or knock-off of something we'd all seen before. I'm not sure I understood what was going on, but it was certainly entertaining and fun.

Let's cram a movie as full of weird as we can, then triple that.
In a universe where literally everything is possible, the challenge is determining what is important.

One remarkable story from "All Quiet on the Western Front". The writer of the movie's screenplay, Lesley Paterson, worked for 16 years to get her script produced. She funded this journey by entering and winning triathlons. When she was facing a funding deadline and needed $10k, she entered and won a triathlon the day after breaking her shoulder in a fall from her bike. Think about that for a moment. She swam, biked and ran with a broken shoulder. All of this to keep her dream of seeing her script produced. And, of course, Netflix picked it up eventually and won an Academy Award. She is quite a story in herself if you are interested.

My son has a long-standing passion for terrible movies. He seeks them out and watches the worst of the worst.
65 felt like there wasn't much thought that went into that movie. The actors were fine I guess but the screenplay was not good. Them two guys wrote A Quiet Place which was great and come to think of it there wasn't much dialogue in that movie anyway so probably didn't have much to do with the screenwriters as much as it had to do with the magic of John Krasinski directing it.
