  • As a reminder, anything I post is subjective to change in the future. It’s only based on stats that I have posted on the history website as of now. I could find another game with more stats tomorrow which would push a record mentioned in this post down, etc.

    The Lobo Wrap.- Longview 49, Mesquite 14 - November 8th, 2019
    • Longview’s 49-14 victory over Mesquite, improved the Lobos to 10-0 on the season. It is the 11th time in Longview’s 110 seasons that the Lobos have started a season 10-0.
    • It is Longview’s 4th time under head coach John King, in his 16th season, to open the season 10-0.
    • It is the second consecutive season that the Lobos have opened the season, 10-0. Longview had, previous to last season, not started a season 10-0 in 13 years.
    • It is the third time in program history that Longview was recorded back to back 10-0 regular season.
    • Longview improved to 6-1-0 all-time against Mesquite at E.H. Hanby Stadium.
    • Overall, Longview improved to 7-1-0 against Mesquite in the city of Mesquite.
    • The victory for Longview over Mesquite at E.H. Hanby Stadium was their second in a row.
    • Longview improved to 12-3 all-time at E.H. Hanby Stadium, having won their previous four trips to the stadium.
    • Longview improved to 9-3 under head coach John King at E.H. Hanby Stadium.
    • Since becoming head coach of Longview in 2004, John King has registered a 43-5 record in district contests away from Lobo Stadium.
    • John King improved to 11-1 as head coach against the Mesquite Skeeters
    • John King improved to 6-1 against Mesquite in Mesquite.
    • John King’s 11 wins against Mesquite ranks tied for 4th for most wins over a single opponent in the John King era (dating back to 2004).
    • Friday’s meeting with the 16th time the two programs have faced off on the gridiron. The 16 meetings against a single opponent ranks 10th all-time in school history.
    • Longview’s 49-14 victory over the Mesquite Skeeters was Longview’s 14th all-time against the Skeeters. The 14 wins over a single opponent ranks for 3rd most in school history.
    • Longview’s 49-14 victory on Friday, marked Longview’s 5th consecutive victory over the Skeeters. The 5 wins in a row is tied for the 29th longest winning streak over a single team in school history.
    • It is the 39th time in school history that Longview was won 5 or more in a row over a single opponent, with 16 of those streaks still active.
    • Longview has scored 49 points or more in five consecutive meetings against the Skeeters.
    • Mesquite held Longview under 50 points for the first time since 2012. The Lobos have scored 50 or more points against Mesquite in five of the last seven meetings.
    • Since 2013, Longview has outscored Mesquite 296 to 65. 24 of the 65 points came in one contest.
    • Longview’s victory on Friday continued a school record for consecutive wins, with their 26th victory in a row, dating back to a 2017 loss against Waco Midway (28-26).
    • Longview’s 26 straight victories continues to be the longest active winning streak in the State of Texas (for the sixth consecutive week).
    • Longview’s 26 straight wins marks just the third time in East Texas football history, on the top two levels of Texas football (Class 6A & Class 5A), that an East Texas program has won 26 consecutive football games. John Tyler’s 26 wins in a row (1972 to 1974) was tied on Friday, but John Tyler’s 27 wins in a row (1994 to 1996) remain the longest current streak by an East Texas 6A or 5A program.
    • The longest current streak in East Texas history is 40 games by Carthage from 2016 to 2018.
    • Longview’s victory also upped their regular season streak to 26 wins in a row, dating back to Sept 22nd, 2017 in a loss at Mesquite Horn. The 26 wins in a row during the regular season is the second longest in school history.
    • Friday’s win also marked the 18th consecutive district victory for Longview, dating back to a Sept 22nd, 2017 52-34 loss at Mesquite Horn. Longview’s 18-game district winning streak is tied for second longest in school history.
    • John King improved to 90-6 in district contests as head coach of Longview.
    • John King also improved to 12-0 in the sixth district game of the season.
    • Longview’s 49-14 victory over Mesquite marked the 215th consecutive game that Longview has avoided a shut out, a school record, dating back to Nov 6th, 2003 against Lufkin (0-14). The second longest streak in school history stands at 96 games (10/20/95 to 10/31/03).
    • Longview improved to 5-5-0 all-time in games played on November 8th, winning their second in a row on the date. Longview’s last loss on 11/08 came in 2002.
    • Longview improved to 62-30-0 all-time in their tenth game of the season, winning their 16th in a row dating back to a 2003 loss vs Lufkin, 14-0.
    • Longview improved to 16-0 in their tenth game of the season under head coach, John King.
    • Mesquite third quarter touchdown marked just the second touchdown allowed in the second half by the first team defense.
    • The Mean Green defense has surrendered just four total touchdowns in the second half of football this season.
    • Through 10 games, Longview’s highest points allowed in a single game has been 21, the longest Longview was gone without giving up 22 or more points since 1992, when the Lobos did not allow 22 or more points in a game until their 11th game of the season (25 points).
    • Longview has allowed just 27 points in their last 18 quarters of second half action.
    • The Lobo defense dominated district play this season, allowing just 57 points through all six district contests.
    • Longview’s 85 points allowed is the lowest the Lobos have allowed during the regular season since 1985, when the Lobos allowed just 42 total points.
    • Dating back to the start of the 2018 season, Longview has scored 40 or more points in 22 of their last 25 contests.
    • Longview’s 49 points against Mesquite marked the 14th consecutive district contest the Lobos have scored 40 or more in. Longview’s last district game to be held under 40 points came in 2017 at John Tyler (28).
    • Longview has scored 20 or more points in 49 consecutive district contests, dating back to being held to just 17 points in 2012 at Mesquite Horn.

    • Haynes King started his 37th game in a row as Lobo quarterback on Friday.
    • Haynes King improved to 36-1 as a starter, a school record for wins by a starting quarterback.
    • Haynes King rushed for the 18th touchdown of his career, 8th of the season, with his fourth quarter score Friday. King ranks tied for 25th most rushing touchdowns in a career.
    • Kaden Meredith rushed for his 16th, 17th and 18th rushing touchdown of the season on Friday, and his 19th touchdown overall on the year.
    • Kaden Meredith now has 31 total touchdowns as a Lobo, 10th most in school history by a single player.
    • Kaden Meredith became just the 10th Lobo to ever record 30 or more touchdowns in a career.
    • Kaden Meredith also has 29 rushing touchdowns as a Lobo after Friday’s three-touchdown night, pushing him into 11th most in school history in rushing touchdowns.
    • Kaden Meredith’s three-touchdown night pushed him to 19 touchdowns on the season, tied for 11th most in school history.
    • Kaden Meredith’s 18 rushing touchdowns is tied for 10th most in school history.
    • Kevin Jones tallied his first two touchdown night when he carried his 5th and 6th of the season.
    • Kevin Jones now has 8 career touchdowns as a Lobo.
    • Cedric Smith recorded his first career touchdown, on his fumble return for a score in the second quarter.
    • Cedric Smith’s 78 yard fumble return was the 6th longest fumble return in school history.
    • The 78 yard fumble return is the longest return since a 64-yard fumble return in 2013 by Laurent Johnson also vs Mesquite.

                  The person who runs the Lobo account on twitter kept mentioning how hard hitting Longview was. I think those Mesquite boys were going to need ice baths after that one, lol. But, as you said, not really surprising because everyone knows Longview as a very physical team.

                        D2R2 does not suck casual. Tougher than D1R2.

                        D2R4 > D1R4

                        D1R1 is tougher than than the D2 version but the D2 version is still good.

                        Only region that's heavily in the favor of D1 is R3.
