    • Region II Overview after Week Seven…

      9-6A:
A massive week for the district turned out to be just that, with two big statement wins. Dallas Jesuit shocked the state this week with a blow out, 41-14, win over the undefeated Prosper Eagles. That was a massive win for the Rangers in the seeding for Division II. As well as a big win by the Plano Wildcats, 56-49 over McKinney in a game that started on Thursday and was finished on Friday. The Wildcats jumped out to a huge lead before having to hold the Lions off. That win almost assuredly confirms that Dallas Jesuit and Prosper will be the D2 representatives. McKinney Boyd got their second win of the season as they put the Plano West Wolves on the brink of elimination with a 35-22 win. And Allen rolled again, this week over Plano East, 45-14. This week we’ll see if Jesuit can make an even bigger statement as they travel to Allen to take on the Eagles in the now district championship game. Prosper hosts McKinney Boyd, Plano East takes on Plano and McKinney hosts Plano West. The big game this week, seeding wise, is the Plano East vs Plano game. If Plano wins that one, they’re going be locked in to head to the post season. Plano East winning could throw their names in that hat. Going with Allen, Dallas Jesuit, Prosper and Plano as the top four.

      10-6A:
The entire district was off during week 7, so they’ll jump back into it this week. Garland takes on Lakeview Centennial, South Garland takes on Naaman Forest, Wylie takes on Rowlett in a pretty big contest and Sachse takes on North Garland in a game the Raiders really need to win in. Right now, I see no reason to change my picks. Rowlett and Wylie are basically locked in. Sachse is going to make the post season. And Lakeview was playing the best of the others going into the bye week. So Rowlett, Wylie, Sachse and Lakeview are my top four. If North Garland does turn it around, and makes it with Rowlett going Division II, that would make this week’s game a pretty big one in terms of seeding.

      11-6A:
The favorites held true in a big week for 11-6A. Longview rolled over Mesquite Horn, 44-20. Mesquite dominated North Mesquite, 45-10. Rockwall steamrolled their cross town rival, 38-17. This week is another big week for the district as Longview hosts Rockwall Heath in a potential elimination game for the Hawks. Tyler Lee travels to Mesquite in a massive game for that 4th spot, and potentially a district title show down if the Red Raiders somehow keep winning. Rockwall takes on North Mesquite, in a contest that should push the Stallions into an elimination game next week when they host Longview. Mesquite Horn gets a much needed bye week. Right now, Longview is out ahead of everyone. Rockwall is solidifying second place, imo. We’ll see how they do when they face the Skeeters, but I don’t think they’ll have much problems there. Horn I still believe is the third best team in the district. The big one is obviously Lee against Mesquite. The winner probably will grab that fourth spot, while the loser will have to make up a lot of room in just three weeks left. Going with Longview, Rockwall, Mesquite Horn and Mesquite as my top four for now.

      12-6A:
If you are wanting a team to feel sorry for through the first seven weeks of the 2019 Texas High School Football season, look no further than the Killeen Ellison Eagles. The Eagles have five losses on the season, two of them have come in double overtime and now they let another one slip away as the Shoemaker Wolves pull out a 29-28 victory over the Eagles. And remember, they only lost to Austin Vandegrift by a 16-0 scoreline. As it stands, that 2-3 district mark will not get them in. Elsewhere, Harker Heights eliminated Waco from playoff contention with a 31-21 win. The Knights now sit at 3-2 in district. Temple steamrolled Killeen, 56-27. Waco Midway struggled against Copperas Cove, but overcame the Bulldawgs, 42-20. Belton was off. This week, Belton takes on Killeen, Midway hosts Harker Heights, Shoemaker takes on Waco and Temple heads to Killeen to take on Ellison. Breaking it down, Cove, Killeen and Waco are not going to make the post season. Temple and Waco Midway are in and will both head division II. Their head to head will most likely decide things even if one of them slips up before then (or after). They take each other on on November 1st. So that leaves two spots for four teams. As much as it sucks, I don’t think Ellison has a good shot with all their close losses. Harker Heights, Shoemaker and Belton will battle it out and I think Belton and Shoemaker come out on top. Going with Temple, Waco Midway, Killeen Shoemaker and Belton in that order.

      13-6A:
We got a lot of clarification this week on just how good Round Rock Stony Point is. The Tigers, fell down big to the Vista Ridge Rangers before taking over and dominating for a 44-29 win. Round Rock obliterated Leander, 53-7. Vandegrift eliminated McNeil from playoff contention with a 35-14 win. And Cedar Ridge stayed alive by eliminating Hendrickson with a 31-21 victory. This week, Vista Ridge takes on Cedar Ridge in a huge game the playoff implications. Stony Point takes on Round Rock in another big game for the district. Stony Point is looking to keep their district title hopes alive. McNeil and Leander face off in a cellar match. And Westwood takes on Austin Vandegrift, looking to put their name in the playoff race. I think it’s obvious the top 3 teams in the district are Vandegrift, Stony Point and Round Rock. But who gets that 3rd spot? It’s pretty big for the overall landscape of the district in terms of Division I and Division II. If Vista Ridge gets in, they’ll go Division II with Vandegrift. If Westwood or Cedar Ridge gets in, Stony Point will be the Division II team with Vandegrift. Right now though, I’m still going with the Rangers. Austin Vandegrift, Round Rock Stony Point, Round Rock and Cedar Park Vista Ridge as my top four.

      14-6A:
Tomball Memorial…step up. The Wildcats made a statement that they aren’t going anywhere in this district as they absolutely rolled over Bridgeland, 42-14. Cy Woods continued to win as they dominated Cy Parks, 49-28. Cypress Lakes kept their playoff hopes alive with a 62-10 win over Bryan, eliminating the Vikings in the process. And Cy Ranch eliminated Cy Springs, 59-13. This week, Bryan takes on Cy Park. The Tigers can be eliminated with a loss. Langham Creek takes on Bridgeland, in a game that could eliminate the Lobos. Tomball Memorial takes on Cypress Lakes in a massive playoff game. And Cy Woods takes on lowly Cy Springs. It’s clear that this is a five team race for four spots. You have four teams with only one loss or fewer while Bridgeland now has two losses. I still think Bridgeland gets in over Lakes and that’ll be the difference. Cy Woods, Cy Ranch, Tomball Memorial and Bridgeland are my top four.

      15-6A:
A statement week for the top teams in the district. Klein Collins rebounded with a dominating win over Klein Cain, 49-14. Klein Oak steamrolled Klein Forest, 41-6, eliminating the Golden Eagles officially. The Woodlands kept their playoff hopes alive, in basically an elimination game with Klein, 31-7. And College Park kept their extremely faint playoff hopes alive with a 45-25 win over Oak Ridge. This week, Klein Oak takes on Oak Ridge, Conroe takes on the Woodlands in a MASSIVE game for both squads. Klein Cain looks to stay in the race as they take on Klein Forest, and Klein takes on Klein Collins. There’s three teams with one district loss and then you have the Woodlands at 3-2, Cain at 2-2 and College Park at 2-3. I don’t think College Park has a shot at all at getting in so you break it down to the Woodlands, Klein Cain and Conroe. Cain has a loss to Conroe and a win over the Woodlands. If the Woodlands loses to Conroe this week, I think they’re in massive trouble. But, going with the current top four. Klein Oak, Klein Collins, The Woodlands and Conroe.

      16-6A:
A pretty straight forward week for the district as Spring ISD took Aldine ISD to the woodshed. Westfield shut out Eisenhower, 27-0. DeKaney rolled over Nimitz, 43-13. Spring dominated Aldine Davis, 48-24. And MacArthur blew out Aldine High, 47-7. This week, DeKaney takes on Davis, Aldine takes on Spring, Eisenhower takes on Nimitz in a massive game for each team’s playoff hopes, and Westfield takes on MacArthur. There’s one undefeated team in district in Westfield, then you have four teams tied at 2-1. All three Spring ISD schools are making the post season, that’s not a question. I still think Davis is going to get in, they’re just way better than the other Aldine school. Either way, even if it’s MacArthur that still sends Westfield Division II. Going with Westfield, DeKaney, Spring then Davis as my top four.

Would be the same as last year if it were to happen, the Quarterfinals.

Westfield's likely route would be Klein Collins in round 1 (what a game that would be), really a toss up between Vista Ridge and Memorial but I'd go with Tomball Memorial in round 2 right now, Temple in round 3 and then Longview.

I think KC will win their district thus preventing a first round matchup against Westfield

They already lost to Oak so...they’d lose out on the tiebreaker there.

Going with Allen, Dallas Jesuit, Prosper and Plano as the top four..
                          .
As you've stated, Jesuit’s win over Prosper took everybody by surprise. Not so much that they beat Prosper but more so how they beat them in such a convincing fashion especially when considering the beat downs they took against Arlington and Desoto. Prior to the game I felt they were on par with Prosper but fully expected Prosper to take them in a close one. In many respects, they made statement “we’re not your typical all offense - no defense Jesuit team”. We’ll see how they fare this week in a hostile environment against Allen. I may be wrong but I suspect the old Jesuit will show up solidifying that even though 2019 Jesuit is not the typical Jesuit team we’re used to but more so that Prosper is simply not a very good football team.

I personally was shocked Jesuit even beat Prosper. I saw them against Boyd and just wasn't that impressed. They have little to no team speed, again. Smith is still there, but man I really thought Prosper was a better team than they showed. No doubt they're better than the overall score but uck. What a bad loss by the Eagles.

Allen should dominate Jesuit for sure.

Westfield's likely route would be Klein Collins in round 1 (what a game that would be), really a toss up between Vista Ridge and Memorial but I'd go with Tomball Memorial in round 2 right now, Temple in round 3 and then Longview.
If we make it that far
