      • Still a week away but interesting article on SOC:
        https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/hig...rs-5-lancaster

Would be a pleasant surprise to see them coming into Lobo Stadium 2-0 on the year after the horrendous team they had coming into the den last season (even though they had a solid playoff run afterwards).

        • I know this means absolutely nothing, but with 35 points against Lufkin on Friday, Longview hit 1500 points against a single opponent for the 2nd time in their history.

Top 5 points scored against a single opponent:
          1) 1,921 - Marshall
          2) 1,517 - Lufkin
          3) 1,401 - John Tyler
          4) 1,365 - Tyler Lee
          5) 1,198 - Texas High

            • I love that song!!! Sounded great echoing through the stadium. My take on the game. Longview will improve greatly in the next several weeks, which is scary if you are not a Lobo fan. QB position will work itself out. Run game is always there and this year will be no different. Anderson will bang people up and williams will scat right by them. Backups provide great depth. Fullback is not as impressive running the ball yet, but will get better as the line grows up. The offensive line may take a little while to build chemistry, but, all the pieces are there. Passing game will be better than last year by a lot, especially by playoff time. Receivers and tight ends looked good except blocking on some plays. Defense. Looked weak on the edge at times, and ran past ball carriers while penetrating. That was just high energy and flying to the ball. That will be corrected. D line looked ok at times, and like gang busters other times. Great depth the will pay dividends come playoff time. Secondary played good but a tad late at times. Will be special when front seven jells. Overall. B+ for a first game against a very good opponent. This team has everything it needs to be a very special one. Now all we need to put the puzzle together. Go Lobos!!!!

They just need to be more consistent...specifically the front 7. They gave up some plays but they also made plays...and when they did it looked special.

Tbh, with the rise of the spread and all of these high powered offenses...the days of holding most teams to double digit total yards are long gone. Defenses are going to give up a few yards, doesn't matter who it is. BUT only the great defenses don't give up scores.

Defense had us nervous at first, but settled down in the 2nd half. And considering they just held an offense with 3 D1 WR's to 16 points...I'll take it. lol like you said though, plenty of room for improvement. And we have all season to improve!

                • I agree Wolf on the three DI players and how we kept the score down. Also agree on the spread and how hard it is to keep the yards down. Very satisfied with our first game.

                    Nothing.

I think losing a veteran QB for the season before camp even starts is a tough pill for people to swallow. While he wasn't a world beater, he was efficient. 1000 yard passer with a good amount of TD's. Didn't have a ton of turnovers. He was a system QB from junior high. So there is confidence in that headed into his senior year. All down the drain in College Station at 7 on 7.

That's tough to accept....no matter what the hype is in the offseason.

Especially when it's the second time we've lost a QB for the year in 3 seasons. 2015 and now 2017. UGH.

Now we have a QB that transferred in from Monroe. He has a ton of potential. But Friday was his first time as a varsity starter for Marshall. I think he would be fine come district play..... but right now the offense is having a LOT of growing pains in Hunter's absence. We have a sophomore behind him. He's got a lot of potential....but he's not ready IMHO.

I think things will be much more upbeat for district. But it does feel like a bad run of luck ATM with our QBS.

Btw... here is a short highlight reel of the Lee game with a quick interview with Mathis about Lee and Longview. Enjoy.
