                • DISTRICT FIVE:
Of all the things we learned this week, this district probably was the least informative. We already know the top 3 teams will be Timberview, Birdville and Richland. Just a matter of what order. Timberview steamrolled RL Turner, 63-6, while Birdville did have a little bit of a struggle with Newman Smith for a half before the Hawks pulled away, 44-6. Richland was off. Dallas ISD’s top teams showed themselves in a big way this week. Bryan Adams dominated Dallas Sunset, 40-6, while WT White got their first win of the season with a 66-6 over Dallas Molina. This week, we see Timberview hosts Newman Smith, Molina host RL Turner, Richland host Bryan Adams and Sunset meets WT White while Birdville will be off. So we look at things, as we have four undefeated teams left in district on top of four winless. The big games we need to watch out for aren’t for a couple more weeks. Timberview travels to Birdville on 09/30 while Richland travels to to Timberview on 10/28. Richland and Birdville meet on 10/21 for the likely 2nd and 3rd playoff. So for the 4th spot. Molina, Sunset and Turner are basically all out already, so it comes down to Newman Smith, Bryan Adams and WT White. Honestly, right now, Newman Smith is the only team that looks that competitive at all. Trojans have me sold that they’re good enough to at least get 4th. Timberview, Richland, Birdville and Newman Smith are my top 4 after week 4.

                  DISTRICT SIX:
By the hair on their chin, the Lions of Frisco Reedy escaped against Frisco Wakeland, who hoped for their own upset following Reedy’s upset win over Lone Star last week, 41-37. Reedy tallied the winning touchdown with just 1:30 left on the clock. Wakeland continues to be in a really bad spot playoff wise, and are needing to spring some type of upset after dropping to 0-2 in district play. We saw Frisco struggle as well with Frisco Centennial, at least for a half, before the Raccoons walked away with a 24-10 victory. Heritage continued their strong start with a 43-10 victory over Frisco Liberty, and Sherman kept their faint playoff hopes alive with a 28-3 win over Lebanon Trail. Lone Star was off. This week we see Frisco take on Lebanon Trail, Centennial take on Heritage in a game that could easily decide the 4th and final spot, Reedy taking on Liberty and Lone Star taking on Wakeland. Sherman is off. From what I can tell, there’s a clear top 3 teams despite Reedy struggling with the Wolverines. Reedy, Frisco and Lone Star are at the top with Centennial and Heritage looking the best out of the next tier. Wakeland still has a chance to get back into that fight but like I said, they will have to upset someone as Heritage already can claim a win over them. I’m extremely interested in how Lone Star does this week, coming off a bye week following their loss to Reedy. Keeping my picks the same this week though. Frisco Reedy, Frisco Lone Star, Frisco and Frisco Heritage.

                  DISTRICT SEVEN:
Word of the week is statements. Statements were clearly made all across the district this week, as district playoff got underway. Longview walked into Abe Martin Stadium and completely dominated the previously undefeated Lufkin Panthers, 56-7..tied for the worst home loss at Abe Martin Stadium in Lufkin history. This came a week after the Pack had upset the No. 3 team in the state. Elsewhere, Lancaster welcomed undefeated McKinney North to their place before rolling over the Bulldogs, 74-7, behind 6 McKinney North turnovers. Forney helped knock off the third undefeated team in district this week, defeating the West Mesquite Wranglers, 43-14. Also Tyler picked up their first win of the year, in a come from behind fashion, 27-23 over North Mesquite at home. Next week, we get several massive match ups. The headliner is Longview hosting Lancaster. It will grab state headlines, we all know it. These are two powerful teams colliding at Lobo Stadium and it should be a fantastic match up. Another big match up is Forney hosting Lufkin. This could easily turn into a 3rd vs 4th match up. McKinney North looks to climb back to .500 as they host Tyler on Thursday while North Mesquite and West Mesquite meet in a cross city showdown, both looking for their first district win. I think we learned a lot this week. Longview and Lancaster are elite squads. Lufkin and McKinney North are not. Forney also is going to play more into playoff race, most likely, than I originally have been giving them credit for. Going with Longview then Lancaster, followed by Forney and then Lufkin for now. But 3 through 5 really feels like it could go any way. Tyler, North Mesquite and West are already close to elimination in my eyes.

                  DISTRICT EIGHT:
A night of upsets and almost. Barbers Hill pulled the upset in the region on Friday night, knocking off Crosby 28-27 in overtime. What a massive win for the Eagles to improve to 2-0 in district play while the Cougars drop to 1-1. Even with the Cougars having a ton of injuries, something just is off with Crosby. On the other side, New Caney Porter almost pulled off their own upset of the region but a missed field goal as time expired helped lift Port Arthur Memorial to an 18-17 win over Porter. What chaos that would’ve been had Porter been able to pull off the upset. La Porte kept their playoff hopes alive, while basically ending Baytown Lee’s as the Dogs got a 27-20 win over the Ganders. Humble Kingwood Park absolutely demolished Baytown Sterling, 44-0. This week, Barbers Hill hosts La Porte in a battle of 2-0 teams in district play, who would’ve guessed that this summer. This one should tell us a lot more about how improved La Porte is. We also see Goose Creek Memorial taking on Baytown Lee, Sterling hosting Port Arthur Memorial and Crosby takes on Kingwood Park in a really big measuring stick game for the Panthers. Porter is off. It’s extremely hard not to put the Eagles at the top of the district after this week. The Titans, frankly, should have lost to a bad Spartan team in Porter, while I’m not even sure Crosby will be able to handle Kingwood Park this week. The Panthers are feeling really good about themselves thus far. This is a critical week for the Cougars, while Memorial should have no issue with Sterling. La Porte against Barbers Hill will be very interesting. Going with Barbers Hill, Port Arthur Memorial, Crosby and Humble Kingwood Park for this week.

                  • Rewatching the game, and I still don't understand how they got pass interference on that Willie pick in the 2nd quarter. That crew was absolutely horrendous.

Really every ball threw over 10 yards should have been picks. I wasn't impressed with LP passing
