Really don't like our district in 5a but the prospect of getting to play JT and Lufkin both in the playoffs is awesome! even tho neither are what they were a few years ago will be a lot of fun!
Think I'd mentioned something about Neville's D-line on the old board....around the time that it was confirmed that we were playing them. Personal wise, should be the best D-Line we face all year. Should be well tested by the time we get to that week though.
Last season, Longview/Lufkin came in at #3, Longview/Mesquite Horn at #5 and Longview/Olive Branch at #21.
We'll probably see Longview on this list at least two more times before it's all said and done (Longview-Lufkin and Longview-JT). Wouldn't shock me to see Longview-T-High added.
Well, he usually does show us a little love in pre-season rankings..I'll give him that. As much as he is bias toward anything this side of the Texas border, he will admit that Longview is a program that doesn't get the respect it deserves in Texas.
This is the first year in a long time I have been concerned about our defense going into season. No big boy in the middle. Secondary has been suspect the past few seasons and on the small side again this year. Speed is always there but not sure we can win a championship without more beef up front. We had big bubba on the last two state runs but no one near his size
What we do lack in size in the defensive front, I am pleased with the LBs. Haven't had this much size in this area since 2010..especially with height. Our secondary is about as big as they are every season. 4 'decent' sized players with the one small guy. But actually....it's been the small guys who've been the most lethal in our secondary the past few years (Corey Bartley, Laurent Johnson, etc). Fully expect Shaun Lloyd to have a big season...especially since he saw plenty of time last season, starting in more than 3/4 of the games last season.
I will say this about the defensive line. The size may not be there in the middle, but those are some strong guys up front. FWIW, we do have Richard Sykes DT (6'3 300). But he's getting beat out. That should say something. Similar situation on the O-Line with Jr Tim Clay (6'6 388)

Good points I know typically our dline is on the small side but at least the past few years we have had at least one guy causing trouble up front. Not sure any of these guys are that caliber....add that to the inconsistencies in the secondary and I am concerned. Lufkin offense will be a big test for this defense so we will see where we r pretty quick. Under king defense has never been a problem so hoping that doesn't change. It's usually the offense I worry about not the defense.

Omar French. I know he won't be available the first week or two but he'll play at the next level. And Trey Lanier lived in the backfield all of last season. He was TFL galore.
Check out TRE' LANIER's Football highlights on Hudl. TRE' LANIER goes to Longview High School in Longview, TX. TRE' LANIER plays for the team LOBO FOOTBALL.
