6A Spring Sports State Champion Predictions...

I have a client that is a member at Flint Rock Falls in Lakeway. I've seen a few golfin' Cavs there over the years...but, that might be Westlake attendance zone...

I live on Flintrock's sister course, and nobody would confuse my neighborhood with being in the Westlake attendance zone.

Idk what our official home course is but the kids who make up our golf teams have pretty much all played MANY rounds at BCCC, or LCCC or ACC...

I’m sure most (probably all) of them have parents who are members at one of the many country clubs in Westlake and they can bring friends whenever even if they don’t allow the team to officially practice at any of them. Heck of a recruiting tool, I don’t think anywhere else in the state can compare to the sheer number of elite courses in their neighborhood. The Woodlands is probably the only one even close.

The thing about golf at the highest levels is that there are only a few schools that can even compete: Westlake tops the chart, with Highland Park, The Woodlands, Lake Travis, Vandegrift, Southlake, Plano West, SA Johnson and SA Reagan are the ONLY schools that have a shot year in and year out. No other school stands a chance in the golf game against these "country club" schools...

Technically I think BCCC is just outside the EISD attendance zone, but it's super close and there are plenty of members with Westlake kids. I played one of the courses as a guest a long time ago - very nice. LT has several top notch courses too - Lakeway, Spanish Oaks. Vandy has River Place. There are a lot of really good courses in West Austin. And a lot of top notch HS golfers - I would think that similar schools in the DFW/GHA areas should be able to compete with the top Austin area teams, but Austin/R4 is dominant. The worst of the 3 R4 girls teams to make state finished 5th, and the worst of the 3 R4 boys teams to make state finished 4th.

I think Region 4 has won something like 8 or 9 of the last 10 for both boys and girls in 6A. Mostly Westlake and LT, but Reagan and Vandy have a girls and Vandy has 3 5A titles in that time frame as well.

We only have two golf courses in our entire massive attendance zone, one great public and one decent private. ACC is really close though.
