I doubt there are 64 teams in counties under 500K. No way!

I saw this on another board-

Taking a quick look, without deep-diving in to what schools are in which counties, I think the number would have to be counties with 1MM population and above, which would be

      Harris
      Dallas
      Tarrant
      Bexar
      Travis
      Collin

That would come closer to equalizing the number of schools between the so-called big county and small county divisions.
Looks like that would at least send El Paso and the Valley schools to the "small county divison" as well as whoever is in Fort Bend, Williamson, and Montgomery County.

      Still kind of goofy.

"HB 3349 would direct the UIL to better balance the two playoff divisions in Class 6A by basing those divisions on county population, rather than enrollment data. Under Landgraf’s proposal, 6A teams from counties with a population exceeding 500,000 would be in one division, and 6A teams from counties with a population under 500,000 would be in a separate division."
Representative Landgraf is a PROUD Permian alumn. He’s also an Aggie, which explains a lot. The last time the Panthers won a state championship, Brooks was 10 years old.

That’s the motivation. 100% wants to bring the glory days back to Permian and to a lesser extent, West Texas.

Yeah, that's never going to happen even in that Division 2, lol. Glory days are in the rear view mirror my friend and fading quickly.

Second, as dragonfan will attest. I've very openly and plainly stated that just because this would immensely benefit Rockwall and my team doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. Same goes for NIL.

                I know you are. 😉

We're pretty loaded still. Especially on O. Both QBs had PT last yr, including Little Locke. Both RBs return. Three WRs with quite a bit of experience including one starter. And the O line will be alot bigger. Including a 360 pounder that is a pretty good athlete. Defense loses alot but had two safties and several D linemen returning. Should be really really good on the LOS. Replacing all the LBs. More speed at CB but alittle more inexperienced.

We will (or defintely should) be the dist favorites. Especially with the Heath situation. I think Horn is a solid #2 pick and RC and Heath a tossup for the last two spots either way.

Just a FYI for future reference. Lots of subdivisions going up off I-20. Those homes will have a Mesquite address but attend Forney schools. I'm talking 3500 homes to be built within the next 3 years. Horn is getting about the same due to be completed within the next 3 years. It should look alot like the Firewheel portion of Garland. They just expanded Horn last year and they just broke ground on a 9th grade center. We will get a bump next realignment but should get a huge lift with the 2026 realignment. Forney is going to move up and surpass North Forney.

Awesome. Now we can move to D2. Lol We've been playing in D1 for 7 straight seasons. Heath passed us this yr in enrollment and will be D1 next alignment instead of us. 😂

Rockwall is building two freshman centers, one for us and one for Heath. With RC, alot of growth for sure in this district.

I swear I saw someone suggest having the cutoff be counties with 1 million residents but I can't find it now. If you limited D2 to counties of less than one million people these notable schools would move down:

                      Guyer
                      The Woodlands
                      Katy

There would still be fewer than 100 schools in D2.
                      Katy Tigers
                      Nine-Time State Champions
                      1959 1997 2000
                      2003 2007 2008
                      2012 2015 2020

I think I'll run for the state house next cycle. I'd file a new bill. 6AD2 should be JUST schools with *lake* in their name. After all, a "lake" takes up area and doesn't have population so it's obviously hurting the school's chances with all that water taking up valuable space. Companion bill would make it a felony to rename a school to have "lake" in their name unless there actually was a lake inside or touching the attendance boundaries.

If this were to pass, what’s the over/under on how long it takes Allen to secede from Collin county and form their single-city Kyler county?

Yes, Lord Vader, the Allen hate is still strong with this one...

I'll take the over on "never"... one of the nice things about being Allen is that you never have to waste any time or energy on trying to figure out if we'll be D1 or D2...

I mean, they have won five big boy titles. 🤷

I propose that any team that has won a D1 title is excluded from being D2. Lol

As a San Ang/ West Texas fan, this list looks a lot more favorable. And when you think about it, most of the time a team’s success has more to do with area population than school population. The surrounding area of West Texas for example is so much smaller than the big cities. We don’t have the same pool size to choose from. Especially in good old Tom green county (San Angelo area) population 119,000, San Angelo alone accounts for 100,000 of that. Lol
