  • Has DFW overtaken GHA as the King of Texas Football??

Saw this clip on the DCTF Texas Football website and thought it would be interesting to bring it here and get some opinions.

Dumb Thursday: Did DFW Pass Houston as the TXHSFB King in 2022? (texasfootball.com)

No, 1 year doesn’t make a trend. Although, I think DFW is on the right track to passing GHA as the TXHSFB king.

I agree one year doesn't make a trend or position one at the top.

Is Aledo considered DFW? When I was at AT&T stadium some people said it was and some said it wasn't.

It is. It’s a part of the DFW MSA.

I would consider Aledo a part of DFW just like I would consider Katy a part of GHA. My in-laws lived in Aledo for 15 years and they considered themselves a suburb of Fort Worth.

Not the best suburb comparison as far as geographical locations go for Aledo to GHA.

Manvel or Fulshear are probably better comparisons.

Well Katy is actually a bordering city of Houston. You could have one foot in Houston and one in Katy I don't think Aledo is set up like that with Fort Worth. If you guys say it's part of DFW we'll roll with it

I went through this earlier this year on this site. Aledo is closer to FW (20 miles) than Allen is to Dallas (25 miles) or Katy is to Houston (29 miles).

Yes, there are some gaps on development on I20/30 from FW to Aledo but there are massive developments occurring. A good part of West FW "feeds' Aledo lol.

If you live in Melissa Aledo might seem like it is not part of DFW, but the same feel is there for Aledo folks about, say, McKinney.

Manvel to Willis is quite a far distance, but no one questions either as part of GHA.

I don't even know where Willis is lol, and you seemed to be misinformed on the distance between Katy and Houston. What you're looking at is the distance between Katy and Downtown Houston the center of the city. It's West Houston then it's Katy there is nothing in between the two.

Why would congruence even be a factor here?

Aren't we talking about "in the area" (i.e. DFW area, Houston area)?

Why would some empty pastures or other cities in between matter?

Is Alvin not in the Houston area because Pearland is sitting between them and Houston? Same for Dickinson (League City, Webster, Clear Lake, etc.)?

I guess I just don't understand how Katy would NOT be in the Houston area. And how Aledo would NOT be in the DFW area....unless there is some narrative motive due to each of those school's successes.

When I was in Houston in the mid 70's, Houston development pretty much stopped at Hwy 6 (actually before on Westheimer, there was a cemetery where it ended). From Hwy 6 and I10 it was pretty empty westward. Katy even then was considered GHA. And let's not even talk about Pearland and Manvel.

So I would contend, no matter how you want to measure it, Aledo is DFW.

Is Sealy considered GHA? I don't consider Mineral Wells or Weatherford DFW.

I don’t know where that is.

Just checked google maps and absolutely not.

I don't know anything about Aledo and as I stated earlier some people say it's a part of DFW and some say it isn't. No one is saying Katy isn't part of the GHA
