Interesting change when the Board voted unanimously on 10/17 to only offer a choice to incoming Seniors. I’m assuming there has been A LOT of pressure from the community to reverse course like this.

The clarification to the motion is at 1:34 and the vote directly after.

Like I said schools change course all the time..in the end its probably better for those kids to stay at their current school

I understand they will pull students from Prosper and RH. This next part is what I’ve heard, not what I know.

The current juniors will have a choice to switch schools but sophomores and freshmen will be obligated to attend the new school according to boundaries. Because they’re opening a year sooner they won’t be part of a district and the plan is to play scrimmages/JV games for a year.

If you’re a to be Jr, you may very well miss playing your entire season. I understand there are several very talented football players as well as ones in other sports will be affected. This seems a little outside the norm and potentially harmful to some athletes.

Another factor is will they all three be 6A. Im not sure the numbers work, but the area is certainly growing.

Is this different than other places?
This is exactly what happened to the Cy-Fair ISD schools each time a new high school opened. They all went straight to 6A that first year was not the best

Unlike DFW, there are some GHA teams that have found instant success for a new school. George Ranch and Shadow Creek come to mind.

Didn’t Denton Ryan and Guyer do really well out of the gate?

I thought Guyer had a series of losing years?

Glad I phrased that as a question.

That is one of the reasons Walsh had such a reputation. The first two years were awful then Guyer took off. Played in the 5A D2 SC game in 2010 their 5th year of existence.

I remember going to a Guyer 4A game at Dragon Stadium and rooting for them. I can't quite recall their opponent. I think it was 2008. Then 2010 happened lol. We have been diehard opponents since. That is why, when you asked a question about rivalries, I mentioned Guyer for Carroll. A rivalry needs to have victories by both opponents and have challenging games. Coppell took us apart in 2010 and used to be a rival but it has been a while since they beat us in football (also been a while since we played).

I respect what Guyer has done, a very competitive program. I was not much of a fan of Walsh but he certainly knew how to win (and apparently recruit lol). His win in 2015 was an exploitation of our defensive weaknesses and it was a well-coached Guyer team. They also had a lot of talent, led by Noah Cain and Shawn Robinson. Total respect for last year's Guyer team.

We played Coppell and Guyer in pre-district in 2010. If I remember correctly we lost by a touchdown to Guyer and by a couple of scores to Coppell. The Cowboys were really good back then.

Current enrollment for this cycle, with a 6A cutoff of 2,225:
                              Prosper HS - 3,298
Rock Hill HS - 2,500 (seems estimated but that's a guess)

In order to have three 6A HS enrollment, the number would be 6,675. That would leave them short 1,877. I know thye're growing, but that seems to be a BIG number even if the 2,500 was a low estimate. Would seem problematic to me, to tell the current sophomore football players to take a year off playing varsity. IF they allow them the choice, then that would open the floodgates I think an many would ask for similar consideration.
It almost sounds like they might be planning on opening WG as a 3A school. That would allow Prosper & Rock Hill to remain in 6A. It also might provide more opportunities for the football team to fill a JV schedule.

Walnut Grove's got an outlaw schedule for 2023 so they are "fine" this year other than 8 away games w/some serious travel....I imagine they'll have a 5A-D2 # when you factor in the multiplier on snapshot day...I believe they won't have seniors so whatever # they have they'll need to multiply by 1.33
