  • Deuce Dyme Time 2019 Class 6A Preseason Top 10 Preview

Texas HS Football will officially start in a few weeks! Just like I did last year,I will be posting my 6A( and 5A in the smaller school Forum) Rankings for the San Antonio Area and the players to watch. Just finished up the 6A Preseason Rankings and Preview so here we go!!

Deuce Dime Tyme 2019 6A Preseason Rankings

    1. Judson-2018 Finish(13-1; 6A DI Regional Finalist; Lost to Austin Lake Travis 38-21)

Anticipated Scrimmage vs DDT#2 Brandeis on Aug.24th(Farris Stadium)

Season Opener: Aug. 31th vs League City Clear Springs(Challenger Stadium)

-The Rockets graduated a good amount of players such as All-American DL Demarvin Leal(A&M), RB Sincere McCormick(UTSA) and CB Rashad Wisdom(UTSA) on the Defensive Side but QB All District Performer Mike Chandler will be back to lead Judsons Offense. Lake Travis has been a thorn in their side the past two seasons in the 6A D1 playoffs and will likely have to go through the Cavs and Stud QB Hudson Card this year if the Rockets want to make a state run in the D1 bracket.

    2. Brandeis-2018 Finish(11-3; 6A D2 regional Finalist; lost to Austin Westlake 26-0)

Anticipated Scrimmage vs DDT#1 Judson Aug. 24th(Farris Stadium)

Season Opener: Aug. 30th vs Johnson

    - Last years amazing 6A D2 Playoff Run for the Brandeis Broncos was definitely a learning step as they were out matched by Powerhouse Westlake in the D2 regional finals but the expectations may be higher for the 2019 season. Even though they've Graduated a few All District players on both sides the most important Athlete is returing under center for his Junior Campaign. Mr. Jordan Battles and remember the name. He was the Express News NewComer of the year as a Sophomore and is projected to have a breakout season, looking to carry his squad to another deep run in the playoffs. On the Defensive Side he will have help from Senior CB Frank Wilson IV(son of UTSA coach Frank Wilson and has committed to the Roadrunners) coming off his first season with Brandeis in impressive fashion.

    3. Steele-2018 Finish(8-4, Lost in the 6A D2 Area Round to Brandeis 31-17)

    Season Opener: Aug. 31 vs DDT#5 O'Connor

    - Max Preps has Steele ranked as one of the top teams in the State but they will start the season under the team who beat them in last years 6A D2 playoffs. The Knights established themselves as a Powerhouse auickly as a new school but absolutely had a down year when CB/WR Caden Sterns graduated to Texas after their Regional Final run in 2017 The defense will be a focal point yet again and the tempo starts with A&M commit Senior Safety Jaylon Jones.

    4. Reagan-2018 Finish(9-3; Lost in the 6A D1.Area Round to Judson 21-63)

Season Opener: Aug. 30th vs DDT#7 Brennan

    - The Rattlers highlight was a huge first round Upset over the State Ranked O'Connor Panthers in the first Round of the 2018 6A D1 playoffs. They have lost a ton of talent to Graduation but will return their Sr QB All District Performer and Baseball Prospect in Travis Sthele, looking for an Encore Performance and a possible run in the 6A playoffs.

    5. O'Connor-2018 Finish(10-1; Lost in the 6A D1 Bi-District Round to Reagan 30-7)

Season Opener: Aug. 31st vs. DDT #3 Steele

    - The Panthers were on a collision course to play Judson in a 6A D1 Area Round clash as OC were darkhouse favorites for a possible playoff run. Unfortunately, Reagan spolied their hope and ended their season in the 1st round after claiming the 28-6A District Crown and an undefeated regular season. They have lost a few skilled players on both sides and one of their Stud O-Linemen Brannon to College but the Panthers still have Top Texas OL Logan Parr(UT commit) back for his Senior season and ready to lead the Line again for another run.

    6. Clemens-2018 Finish(6-5; Lost in the 6A D2 Bi-District Round to Austin Westlake 14-28)

Season Opener: Aug.30th vs DDT#8 Madison

    - The Buffs came in the 2018 6A D2 playoffs after and up/down regular season and played Westlake better than any SA area team including #2 Brandeis, losing by only a few scores before bowing out in the 1st round. The Buffs are looking to improve on last years mark and the player to watch on the Defensive Side is Sr. LB Derrick Lewis.

    7. Brennan- 2018 Finish(8-4; Lost to Austin Westlake 7-49 in the 6A D2 Area Round)

Season Opener: Aug. 30th vs DDT#4 Reagan

    - The Brennan Bears also had some Highs and Lows competing in the 28-6A Northside ISD District but finished strong in the second half before losing to Westlake in the 6A D2 playoffs. Watch for Sr. WR Darryon Tolefree as a deep threat on the outside.

    8. Madison- 2018 Finish(9-3; Lost to Austin Lake Travis 56-35 in the 6A DI Area Round

Season Opener: Aug. 30th vs DDT#6 Clemens

    - Madison turned heads in 2018 as they went 4-6 in 2017 to winning the 27-6A District Title before falling to powerhouse Lake Travis in the 2nd round of the 6A D1 playoffs. This year, the Mavs will have to get it done without Express News 6A Offensive POTY Dante Heaggans (Incarnate Word) but will be returning good talent on both sides of the pigskin including Dante's brother, All District Sr. Safety De'Shaun Heaggans.

    9. Smithson Valley- 2018 Finish(5-5; Lost to Austin Lake Travis 45-14 in the 6A D1 Bi- District Round)

Season Opener: Aug. 30th vs Midland Lee

    - The Rangers had a tough 2018 season dropping their first 3 games before picking up the slack in the 2nd half of the season including a last regular season win to clinch a spot in the 6A DI playoffs. QB Levi Williams(Univ. of Wyoming) was their everything last season but SV will have a good amount of returning letterman with Varsity experience, the pedigree and an underrated RB in Jr. Darlington Frasch who they can rely on for the ground game.

    10. Warren- 2018 Finish(7-4; Lost to Madison 7-35 in the 6A D1 Bi-District Round)

Season Opener: Aug.30 vs Del Rio

    - The.Warren Warriors had some strong wins against Deuce Dyme Ranked 28-6A district rivals in the Regular Season, then ran into the buzzsaw that was the Rising Madison Mavs in the 1st round of the playoffs. This year, the Warriors will again be one of 28-6As strongest squads along With Brandeis, O Connor and Brennan but should not take Stevens or Jay lightly this year.
