ON THIS DATE IN LOBO HISTORY: September 15th
In 1939, Charles Sapp and Bobby Wilkinson each scored two touchdowns a piece as the Lobos held Carter-Riverside to a single rushing yard all night in a 31-6 victory over the Eagles.
In 1944, Art Rowland rushed for four touchdowns behind a stifling Lobo defense that held Nacogdoches to just 68 total yards in a 43-0 beat down of the Dragons at Lobo Stadium.
In 1950, Jimmy Burnett hauled in two second half passes to rally Port Neches Groves to a. 13-13 tie with Longview. Sonny Jones and Dick Nash registered the scores for the Lobos, with Nash bringing in a 67-yard punt return for a score.
In 1961, Don Petty rushed in from a yard out in the first quarter before Thomas Jefferson reeled off three consecutive scores in a 21-6 Patriot victory at Cobb Stadium in Dallas. Three Lobo turnovers sealed the fate for Longview.
In 1967, Steve Judy rushed from 14 yards out while Rodney Hill scored on a rush and a receiving play in a 27-7 Longview in over Arlington at Lobo Stadium.
In 1972, with just 8 yards passing combined, Mike Mock’s 32-yard second quarter field goal brought the game home for the Lobos as Longview knocked off La Marque, 3-0, at Etheredge Stadium.
In 1978, Sam Lanier rushed for two scores, Larry Smith and Victory McGee added two more in a 28-6 Lobo win over Fort Worth Paschal. Longview’s defense held the Panthers to just 56 yards on the night.
In 1989, Earnest Hunter tallied three rushing scores in a 34-8 Longview victory over Fort Worth Trimble Tech. The Lobos tallied 365 total yards on the night.
In 2000, Willie Andrews hauled in a 97 yard Hail Mary as time expired to lift Longview to a 27-24 victory over Lake Highlands at Lobo Stadium. Artillious Allison tallied three scores in the win, after surrendering 328 yards rush to the Wildcats.
In 2006, six different Lobos registered points for the Lobos on the night in a 28-point first quarter for the Lobos as Longview demolished Monroe Ouachita, 38-7, at Lobo Stadium.
In 2017, South Oak Cliff struck first before Longview tallied 38 unanswered in a 38-7 Lobo win over the Golden Bears at Lobo Stadium. Jaylin Brown’s 63-yard reception was the highlight of a night that saw the Lobos hang up 529 yards on the night.
