    GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW:
Statement made. Heading into their first showdown with a district champion this season, it looked rocky for the first half of the first quarter as the Port Arthur Memorial Titans moved the ball with ease and grabbed an early 7-0 lead. However, Longview showed why they were the state's No. 1 ranked squad producing three turnovers in the first quarter after falling behind on their way to a 51-0 run the rest of the contest in a 51-7 victory. The win was Longview's first Regional Semi-Final victory since 2018, advancing Longview the furthest it has been since winning the State Championship five seasons ago. The win was Longview's 13th of the year, just the fifth time in program history for the Lobos to reach that amount of wins in a single season. Three of those five have now come under current head coach John King. Taylor Tatum, Jalen Hale and Alijah Johnson each registered two touchdowns in the victory over Port Arthur Memorial. For Tatum, it pushed him over 30 touchdowns in the 2022 season..the most ever by a Lobo in program history. Jalen Hale continued to widen his gap on most receiving touchdowns by a Lobo in a career, recording his 41st and 42nd scores. The 51-7 victory, largest margin of victory in program history for a third round game, also gave Longview tt's 77th all-time playoff victory, which ranks in the top 30 of all programs in Texas High School Football history. The win sends Longview to the Region II Final against No. 2 ranked Mansfield Timberview. The Wolves, reaching the 13-0 mark for the first time in school history, come into Friday's game escaping Frisco Reedy in a 28-26 victory over the Lions. The Wolves jumped out to a 21-0 lead on Reedy before having to hold off a second half comeback by the Lions that saw Reedy drive 90+ yards in under 2 minutes to play before the ensuing two-point conversion was no good. While this is Longview's 16th all-time trip to the State Quarterfinals, this will be Timberview's second trip this deep into the post season. Timberview made the State Semi-Finals back in 2011 before facing a heavy 56-17 loss to Spring DeKaney. The Lobos also lost to DeKaney that season, 17-6. Last week was Timberview's second ever win in the Regional Semi-Final round, having lost in 4 of the previous 5 trips to that round. Like Longview, the Wolves had reached the Regional Semi-Final each of the last two seasons before bowing out. In 2020, Timberview fell 64-50 to Lucas Lovejoy before falling again to the Leopards in 2021, 24-20. Longview will take on their third Mansfield ISD opponent, all coming within the last 8 seasons. The Lobos are 0-2 all-time against Mansfield Lake Ridge, losing by two points in 2014 before falling by a field goal in the State Quarterfinals in 2015. Longview knocked off Mansfield Summit, 21-20, in the 2015 Area Round. This will be head coach John King's 8th trip to the State Quarterfinals since taking over as head coach in 2004. King also reached the fourth round as an assistant in 2002. As a head coach, King is 5-2 in his previous seven trips, falling in 2007 and 2015. Overall as a program, Longview is 9-6 in the quarterfinal round. Unlike their opponents, the Lobos will be headed to an extremely familiar venue for their showdown on Friday night in that of Mesquite Memorial Stadium. After not playing in the stadium for three seasons, the Lobos will head to Memorial for the seventh time in the last three seasons. In 2020, the Lobos defeated #3 Lancaster there before falling to #1 Denton Ryan. In 2021, after a mid season district victory against West Mesquite, Longview again knocked off Lancaster before falling to #1 Denton Ryan at Memorial. Earlier this season, the Lobos defeated North Mesquite 42-19 in the venue. This will be Longview's 18th overall visit, dating back to 1989. The Lobos are 3-4 all-time at Memorial in playoff contests.

ON THIS DATE IN LOBO HISTORY: December 2nd
In 1927, Longview capped the best season in school history, stat wise, with a 51-0 win over Livingston in Class B Bi-District action. The 51-0 scoreline helps the Lobos record their 10th shutout of the season and finish on the season with a 475-2 scoreline.
In 1939, Edgar Worsham rushed in from 10 yards out late in the 4th quarter to record his second score of the night in a 13-7 victory over Gladewater at Bear Stadium. Worsham threw the ball 32 times in the victory.
In 2017, falling down 14-0 to the No. 8 ranked and undefeated Tigers of Klein Collins, Longview’s Jaylin Brown would go onto catch three touchdowns to help lift Longview past Klein Collins at McLane Stadium, 30-24. Daquavaion Randall also caught a pass, to help sophomore Haynes King tie a Lobo playoff passing record for 4 scores.

Great game last night. Longview has to know it’s the passing game in the middle of the field; will open up the run game. I suspect there will be at teams who will show eight man fronts and force the qb and receivers to beat them. Screen plays, along with never abandon the running game which will open up the long passing game. Outstanding patience from the coaching staff.

Continue to work the middle of the field. Maybe even some double move routes, quick out then turn back inside. Lobos can catch short passes and turn them into big gainers if not touchdowns. Go Lobos. It will loosen up everything including the running game.
