GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW:
Dominance. That’s the word of the week for the Lobos, following a 48-11 victory over their rivals to the east in the Marshall Mavericks. Longview’s win over the Mavericks handed the Lobos their first 2-0 start in three seasons while also registering their 7th consecutive victory over Marshall. Why dominance you ask? Because they also marked Longview’s 21st victory in 22 seasons over the Marshall Mavericks. A team victory all the way around, saw no Lobo other than Jordan Allen go over the 100 yard mark in any facet of the game. Four turnovers helped bring the Lobos to victory, Longview’s 203rd in 247 games at Lobo Stadium. On top of the dominance Longview has over their rivals to the east, the Lobos look to continue that dominance over their rivals to the west. The Lobos head to Tyler’s Rose Stadium for the second consecutive season to take on the Red Raiders, following up on a 46-20 victory last season after the Lobos fell down 10-0. Longview has now won 17-in-a-row over the Red Raiders, dating back to 2003. Longview actually led at halftime, 14-3, in their last loss to the Red Raiders before Tyler Lee at the time was able to come back for an 18-14 victory back in 2003. In the round robin district at the time, the Lobos got revenge on the Red Raiders that season in a 22-21 win at Rose Stadium, to start the second longest winning streak in school history. The Lobos stand just two years away from tying a school record, from when Longview won 19 consecutive against Marshall back in the 1970s into the late 1980s. Overall, Longview has dominated the series between the two schools, winning 46 out of a possible 62 meetings. Longview’s last loss in Rose Stadium to the Red Raiders came back in 2002, when Matt Flynn scored with 4 minutes remaining to lift Lee to a 28-21 win. The Lobos, as started earlier, are off to their first 2-0 start since 2019, and their 52nd 2-0 start in school history. The Lobos head back to their home away from home in Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium for the 79th time in their history, riding a 50-27-1 record all-time. Longview has won their last 8 contests at Rose Stadium, and under John King, Longview holds a 20-1 record at the stadium. Speaking of John King, the Lobos head to Tyler with a chance to make history. With last week’s win, coach King improved to 199-44 all-time as head coach of the Lobos. 100 coaches previously had hit the 200 win mark as head coach with King sitting on the edge just one win away. King actually has already celebrated 200 wins, but a forfeit to Evangel back in 2008 took one victory away. For the Red Raiders, after a close loss to Lufkin to open their season, the Red Raiders nabbed a surprise victory over cross town rival Tyler High in four overtimes, despite losing the ball four times on fumbles and two times through interceptions. The Red Raiders managed just 111 yards passing in the victory.

In 1949, Longview and Lufkin battled to a 0-0 scoreline at Lobo Stadium. Five fumbles from Longview and four turnovers from Lufkin plagued the day, as the Lobos fumbled three times in the red zone.
In 1960, Don Petty, John Malone and Bubba Smith all rushed for touchdowns while Mike DeLatin recorded a safety in a 20-12 victory at Lobo Stadium over Fort Worth Pascha.
In 1966, Steve Judy tallied three touchdowns while Cecil Newton added a first quarter receiving score in a 27-0 victory over Dallas Adamson at Lobo Stadium. The Lobos rushed for 230 yards on the day.
In 1977, Sammy Lanier returned a punt 93 yards for a score before Dinky Edwards and Reno Hutchins each tallied in the third quarter in a 24-0 victory over Fort Worth Paschal at Lobo Stadium. Longview held the Panthers to 77 total yards on the day.
In 1983, Eric Harris, Charles Smith, O’Neal Jackson and Joe Johnson each scored for the Lobos in a 28-0 victory over Fort Worth Paschal at Lobo Stadium. The Lobos held the Panthers to 132 total yards while piling up 18 first downs.
In 1988, Reggie Adams and Deondreau Bennett each tallied twice for Longview as Victor Bush opened the scoring on an 85-yard fumble return in a 35-20 victory over Fort Worth Trimble Tech at Lobo Stadium. The Bulldogs managed 395 rushing yards on the Lobos.
In 1994, William Wooten’s 12 yard rushing score was the only touchdown of the day. Add in Jeremy Mulcahy’s two touchdown day and the Killeen Kangaroos shut out Longview, 12-0, at Lobo Stadium. 6 Lobo turnovers ruined the day for Longview.
In 2005, Five different Lobos tallied touchdown as well as a Zach Decker field goal to help lead Longview to a 38-14 victory over Lake Highlands at Wildcat-Ram Stadium. Michael George’s 81 yard reception highlighted a first half dominance as Longview racked up 501 yards while holding the ‘Cats to just 178 total.
In 2011, Andrew Rodriguez and Cortland Tolbert each tallied twice for Allen in a 42-23 victory over Longview at Lobo Stadium. Alec Morris threw for 365 yards on the day in the Eagle win.
In 2016, Eight different Lobos scored touchdown for Longview with Chris Kessler adding two field goals in a 62-14 beatdown of South Oak Cliff at Lobo Stadium. The Lobos managed 531 total yards while holding the Golden Bears to 219 on the day.
