  • Manvel!!!! Most unfortunate football team in TXHSFB history?

    2016 5A-D1 Regional Final Temple 24:23 L 2
    2017 5A-D1 State Championship Highland Park 53:49 L 6

    2019 5A-D2 Regional Final FB Marshall 40:10 L 0
    2020 5A-D1 Regional Final Cedar Park 52:42 L 2
    2021 5A-D1 Regional Semi-final FB Hightower 31:21 L 0

Is Manvel the most unfortunate TXHSFB team in past 10-12 years?? They had solid team every year, but failed to win a title and demolished by powerhouse programs such as La Marque, Aledo, Katy, Highland Park. And, how about these two onside kick by Cy-Ranch (2012) and Highland Park (2017)!!!!

Its all about perspective but I think many teams would love to have that resume. Yeah the state title has not been achieved but those are so tough to win!

The 2015 team (running into the Katy defense) and the 2017 heartbreaker against HP….

They were better than North Shore there for a number of years….but not any more!

The beat-down Cy Ranch took the following week though....YIKES! Off the top of my head, I can't think of another 49-0 Katy drubbing of someone that late in the playoffs. Bass?

Katy's given out a few late playoff beatdowns. Of those that happened in the region final or later, and that were of 40 points or greater...

              2008 La Porte 42-0
              2013 Manvel 56-14

Sorry, I meant to say....I can't remember any other *first-half* beatdowns that late in the season to tune of 49-0 (Cy Ranch in 2012).

Last year against Hays came close....42-0 at the half.

Not sure about any of these others, off the top of my head.

So they got beat down a lot of years by better teams/programs. Not sure how that makes them unfortunate tbh. The Highland Park year, yes I can see. But besides that?

Off the top of my head I believe that Westlake and Judson have played for and lost the most state championships if that makes sense.

I want to say they have been in like ten state championships and only won three or four of them. That would be pretty tough. In recent history Manvell definitely is up there though.

Westlake was 1-7 in title games with 2 overtime losses before the 2019 season began. Now we are 4-7 in title games.
Deep playoff runs are, in part, wars of attrition.

Yeah, things are definitely going in the right direction for the Chaps. Region IV was on the struggle bus for a while.

Manvel lost a real tough one to Highland Park a few years ago. Manvel had a huge, huge athleticism advantage, but HP would not quit even when they seemed beaten.

Temple is another one that I think Manvel really regret...the opening of Shadow Creek has hurt them some and Iowa Colony is going to dig into Shadow Creek some in a year or two
